Trek 1500 - n00b question

I can't get the chain up onto the larger cog at the front using the shifter on the left hand of the handlebar - the right shifter does works fine for the smaller gears at the back heh

Is it something I'm doing wrong, can the chain move up onto the larger cog in any gear, or if the left shifter is used and nothing happens (either the black smaller lever or the large brake lever sideways) does it mean something is broken ?

The brakes work fine however, just not the left hand shifter.

Sounds like your cables have stretched. Take it back to the shop and ask them if they can have a look at adjusting them.

It most likely just needs to be adjusted. Could just be slack in the cables after you have ridden it a bit, especially if it is new. Run it back by the shop or take this as the first opportunity to start learning some care and feeding for your baby.

And by the way, the 1500 is a fantastic bike. Be proud. 😉

Thanks for the replies, I have literally only ridden about 1 mile / 2 km on this bike so my only guess was a fault from the factory 🙂

They don't come from the factory assembled. They are put together by the shop.
It does sound like the cables just aren't tight enough.
