  1. How is trek 1.5 for a new clydesdale rider? I have been offered one trade for my trek hybrid.

I might have to spend few bucks for getting some adjustment done but beats the hell out of buying a new one and trading-in the old one for peanuts (money is a bit of a concern).

Any comments on how is this bike for starters and what do I need to be looking at in a used bike?

    Thanks

I don't see why not. The 1.5 is a fine bike that's rugged enough where it counts.

You might want to use fatter tires until your weight comes down, though--700c x 25mm.

  3. Out of curiosity, what year is the 1.5? I ask because the 2011 has upgraded the components from Sora to Tiagra.

Either way, it's a fine bike; I just bought a 2011 as my first road bike and it really is a lot of bike for the money; so, I say go for it as long as it's the right size for you. It's rugged, fairly light/fast and it's comfortable.

As far as what to look for in a used bike: ask if you can have your local shop check it out before you buy it if you don't have a keen eye/experience buying used. If the seller says no, I would just walk away.

1.5 has had Tiagra at least since 2008. Tiagra was upgraded to look and feel more like 105 in 2009.

    [censored], we're both wrong actually.

It went full Tiagra in 2010, up until then it had Tiagra/Sora

It's totally unimportant, just lemme be a nerd for a minute :p
