At the weekend I borrowed my mate's MTB for a recce of the South Downs Way (I'm organising a ride for my Scouts in a fortnight).
Last night he wanted the bike back. I was going to a meeting 5 miles away, which he would be at.
I had to transport his bike 5 miles and then get myself home.
Equipment available:
Car. A several of bikes. Lift home. Train. Bob Yak. Bungees ect ect.
I dismissed the car option (I get to drive in my day job) Possibly ride his bike to the meeting and blag a lift home? Except the potential lift giver might not be going my way. Train home? Not as much fun as.......
Take front wheel off MTB. Stand MTB up, bungee front forks down onto deck of Bob Yak. Luggage strap over top tube to either side of the Bob Yak. All contact points protected with suitable bits of rag. Set pedals to support bike between Bob Yak mudguard and frame. Toe strap to secure. Toe strap to hold front wheel in place. Hook up to Pedersen. Ride off into sunset.

Saw a chap in Saarf Lun'un the other day solve the /three/ bike problem. Ride one, hold onto handlebars of other two - one each side, obv. What happened when he needed to slow down is probably too terrible to contemplate.

Easy - use one brake on each of the bikes either side.
How about saddle down to min, turn bike upside down and strap bars to top of rack (with jubilee clips). Pivot above rear wheel. Won't work with mudguards of course.
Note: I haven't actually tried this (yet)...Maybe later :-)
