[font=Courier][font=Helv]I am a 36 year old male club racer who is slowly getting more and more into racing as I have been only racing about 6 months. I am doing A grade vet races and B grade club races. I used to be a State champion middle distance runner so I have a good background in training but have moved to cycling as I get less injuries and enjoy the speed and camaraderie more. I am 178cm and 72kg and am probably carrying about 3kg more than if I was whipped down. Doing about 200-250 kpw but this is usually good quality as I know how to mix up hard/easy days and I know how my body will respond to interval sessions.
My question is this. I am going to be travelling a lot soon for work up to 3 days per week and I want to know how I can keep fit for cycle racing during this time. Running will be beneficial in keeping my weight down but does give me sore legs, as I used to be 63kg when I was running and my technique is still the same. I still go fast but the additional weight will hurt my legs which makes racing on the weekend an exercise in frustration. Because of the short time periods of travel I do not want to take the bike as by the time I have set it up again I will have to dismantle this. Also a pain to take to client sites.
Is there some sort of exercise routine that you could suggest for the traveller to minimise the damage to my routine by travelling. Most hotels will have an exercise bike but this is not anything close to my bike setup or the feel of the bike? Should I give the leg press machine a good workover?
Cheers
Brett

Why not do your runs easy? An easy run shouldn't make your legs sore. Also one or two of the days could be rest days.
Being a runner you may have heard of Tony Benson. Have a read of this page:

Looking into folding-bikes might be an option? Some of them look very worthy for training purposes. For example:
