Hello! First post here so please be nice.
In early October a friend of mine and I are going to cycle the 1000 miles for LE-JO'G in 10 days to raise money for parkinsons. He is new to cycling but has recently ran his first marathon in an amazing time (I forgot the exact time) and has done may endurance events in the past (ace swimmer too). I have cycled a fair bit in the past but after a long absence am getting back into it slowly but surely (averaged 18mph over a reasonable distance for the first time yesterday - well 20miles is reasonable for me!).
Basically next week we are going to devon to train for a week in prep for the main event. We know obv that one week wont get us fit so it is really an opportunity to get us into good cycling shape to really start getting the miles in up to October. My question to you wise people is what would you recommend for this week? SImply putting as many miles in as possible? Some climbing? Mixture of training as per a normal routine? Something more based on fitness? Our longest training ride so far is 65miles and it wasnt too bad, but we appreciate that doing this, and then some, 10 days in a row will be more intense!
We were thinking of doing something like the following daily mileage of the training week (well 10 days to be precise)...
20
40
65
20
100
Rest - (well 15 miles light ride)
65
20 - potentially doing some intervals here?
100
20
I am assuming that intervals will not be of particular use as it really is about the miles rather than speed at this point? Or would they still have value?
Any advice would be great. Really quite new to the training aspect of cycling!
Thanks
Graeme
