  1. hey guys.

    my post is two fold.

i need some advice on what training i should do to work myself up to do 570km over a 9 day period. I have over a year to get ready for this ride so im am looking for an extended training regime that will build up the fitness i require to complete the ride.

For ose that arent aware im talking about the Great Victorian Bike Ride. 570km over a 9 period, averaging about 70kms a day.

The reason for the ride is two fold.

    1. Ive always wanted to do the ride and have always enjoyed riding. I ride everyday, generally just communting though but ive been riding for years and dont find it too difficult to go on an extended ride either. Occasionaly go on rides that go for 60km + and dont feel at all bad after it however i havent done it over an extended period. Love Mountain Bike riding and have done miles and miles of that stuff but ive always wanted to the Great Victoria Bike Ride.

    2. The other reason for doing it is mate, he is 27 years old, has just been diagonosed with Testicular Cancer and as part of the ride im going to get people to sponsor me - 1c a km, 10c a km etc.. and just raise some money by doing it. I know it seems silly, but its just something i want to do for him as a sign of support. The money is just a side thing though, all money i get will go exclusively to a charity based around Testicular Cancer, like i said its more a sign of support for my mate while he goes through the treatment. Its possible that, if i can get a few of my other mates as well there will be a few of us doing it.

So if anyone could direct me to the place i need to be to work our a suitable long term training plan to get me well into shape to be able to perform this ride comfortably i would be forever greatful.

thanks for any help you maybe able to give me

    regards

    scott

  2. Scott,

Get a copy of 'The Cyclist's Training Bible' by Joe Friel. Its a little hard to get in Australia through retail outlets (some bike shops may have it) but I got it through Amazon.com within a few days (I'm in Sydney).

You'll find absolutely everything you'll need to ride 570 km a day 😄 , let alone over 9 days.

    Best of luck 🙂

    Chris
