Recently saw the 1974 film of the Giro d'italia 'The Greatest Show on Earth' which featured mainly on Fuente and Mercx.
In it Fuente states that his training mileage is 65 miles a day 300 days a year. This seemed a bit on the mild side to me as I read in a book on road race training that one had to be doing about 8 hours riding a day. 8 hours a day translate more into 120 plus miles a day IMO...especially for a pro cyclist.
