  1. So, the hubby & I are going to Vegas next week. Business for him, mini
training camp for me. :-) (The casinos will get old fast!) We heard about a
great area to ride outside of town with some good climbing called Redrocks
Canyon, so I'm planning on doing some training out there, but having never
been there, I was wondering if anyone has any "insider tips" for me, like:

-is it ride-able from the city (we'll probably have a rental car, so driving out there is an
option). -what's the weather like this time of year -any recommended routes -anything else I
    should know

Also, does anyone have a weekday faster group ride I could tag along with. I'm thinking a whole week
of riding alone will get boring fast. We'll be there Feb.1 through Feb. 6, leaving Friday morning.

Reply here or email me directly.

    Thanks!

    Suz

  2. I've been to vegas 2 time and took my bike. Red Rocks canyon is a good ride, but its pretty hilly.
If you ride out of the south end of the strip, hit route 160, go past blue diamond and come back in
on the north end, the ride will be ~50 miles. If you add in Red Rocks it'll be about 60-65.

I've never ridded on the east side of the city towards Lake Meade, so I can't give any advice for
    you there...

  3. Moved from Vegas 10 years ago but I'll give it a shot.

Yes, it's 17 miles west of the Strip out Charleston Blve. map at

    variable/nice - check weather.com

    -any recommended routes

The Canyon is a simple 13-mile loop. Other places to ride - out/back to Boulder City. Some more
challenging riding north of the city in Mt Charleston area.

    -anything else I should know

not sure what you mean by "good climbing" - canyon loop is a nice ride with one moderate hill of
    1000ft climbing over 4-5 miles

check out the topo at topozone.commap.asp

Exceptional hiking (esp. this time of year) there if you're so inclined.

    Enjoy the trip, Barry

Check with the Las Vegas Valley Bike Club: vegasbikeclub.orgvegasbikeclub.org. I rode with them once when
my wife was at a conference in LV, on a Thursday morning ride. It was a nice ride at an easy pace -
this was in the middle of June, so hard riding wasn't a good idea. It was around 100 deg when we got
    back to the ride start.

Their ride schedule shows some rides scheduled for the time you are there.
