Well I was just beginning to train for my first triathlon, a sprint that I plan to do this summer
(yes it's early but I was trying to build up a base and then train from there). A month ago I got
hit with mono. I feel basically fine now, I have good days and bad, but I am trying to figure out
how to get back into working out. Obviously I'm not doing anything on the days when I feel bad. The
other day though I felt okay and decided to swim (I was a competitive swimmer for years so swimming
is my easiest area to train). I didn't do anything hard but after about 800 I was incredibly dizzy
and had to get out. I ate and felt better later so I wasn't too worried about it. A couple days
later I felt great and decided to try biking. I did about 7 miles, didn't strain myself too hard (no
hills or speed or anything, just basically leisurely riding), and felt fine right afterwards.
However, about an hour later I was completely wiped out and fell asleep for about 6 hours, woke up
for a little bit and then went to sleep for the night and still felt bad in the morning.
I asked my doctor about working out and he basically said to take it easy but there's no way of
knowing how long this will last and if I feel okay it's okay to do stuff. The problem seems to be
that I feel fine and work out and then after feel horrible.
I was just wondering if anyone has had experience with mono, how long it took you to feel okay after
working out, how long you went without working out at all, etc...basically any experiences that you
had that might be helpful. I have basically decided not to work out for awhile, but I don't really
like it - and I can't figure out when it's okay to start again since I seem to feel fine but as soon
as I do something it gets bad again.
Thanks for any help anyone can give me!
