  1. I just started training 2 months ago and due to the weather will have to start training indoors more. I don't know much about trainers and need advice about which one to get for a beginner with a mountain bike and something that is under $100 if possible.

    Any suggestions? Help! :o

  2. A Trainer for under $100? That's kinda pushing it a bit, and in any case, it will have Magnetic resistance for that price which amongst other things are VERY noisy...it's hard to listen to the TV or Radio and People sill have to yell at you when in conversation...and believe me, Trainers are VERY boring after a while..so you need something to pass the time other than Peddling...

My advice is to save some more money and get the Cyclops Fluid resistance model, they're excellent...mine was $300 from our LBS but I'm sure you could find a used one on ebay...

But deffinately try and buy a fluid rather than magnetic resistance trainer if at all possible....

    Hope this helps....

  3. Thanks Jaguar27. I appreciate the response. I think I might go with a stationary bike instead. The whole boredom factor of the trainer doesn't help but I was looking at stationary bikes anyway.

You could buy a fluid for under 200 bucks. They ain't the BEST model but they'll do the job. You might also want to buy a HR monitor since its pretty much useless to train on trainer if you don't know how fast or how hard you're goin.

    sorry but that´s balls
all trainers are noisy unless they´re using elastomer as the contact medium , the other factor is tread and a mtb tyre will sound like a rock crusher - it needs a slick for , comparative , silence .

What´s best ? fluid costs more but if you watch the Tour you´ll see people using both , depending on what their sponsor is trying to sell at the time so there can´t be that much difference can there ?
magnetic works fine and it´s cheaper , fluid is better but much more expensive though some people say it feels more natural ( mostly in reviews and adverts )
