Are those trainers that hook to a bike's rear dropouts bad for bikes ๐ I mean if you stand & climb out of the saddle while using the trainer does that cause damage over time ? Especially on frames with carbon fiber seatstays.... I've been using rollers this winter but noticed on a outdoors ride this weekend that my out of the saddle climbing has definitely suffered since this summer. ๐ Are any of those dropout trainers better than others ?? Recommendations please....
from what ive read while researching trainers the two best trainers are offered on this website www.1upusa.com they are both 300 bucks but you get what you paid for. as with if they are bad for the frame i would say no but i have no personal experience.
The rear axle is probably one of the stongest areas of a frame so I would say no real damage would result from using the bike in a trainer under normal usage. The only thing I would think that may cause damage would be doing hard stomps and sprints out of the saddle where you tend to rock from side to side. It can't be helped.
I think I'm going to stick with my beat Performance rollers for this last winter and then spring for some Kreitlers with the fan unit next winter......I did not realize that you could stand & climb on rollers so I am determined to now learn. See my post under the Training category "Climbing on Rollers?".
