Anyone know which is better for riding speed with less muscle strain. To place all the cargo weight directly above the axle of a trailer or place the weight fore or aft of the axle? (2 wheel trailer...not a BOB) I already creamed one axle while riding down a hill when the weight shifted.

with an automobile trailer, the weight should be something like 60% on the lounge/towing vehicle and the balance supported by the trailer. I can't see why that rule of thumb would work for a bicycle. however it seems your bigger problem was not tying the load securely or possibly overloading the trailer...
