  1. about to do trail marathon #3 - the third annual Grand Island Trail
Marathon - on the 5th largest great lakes island - ANYONE ELSE DOING IT? I
asked last year and it was a NO. www.greatlakesendurance.com

funny how goals change over the years.
when i was young it was SPEED.
now that i'm old (41!) its finish (in the top 20)

July 28th is the date of the marathon - people think its nuts to do a
marathon in July. Last year the race was held in a thunderstorm at about 60
degrees. Two years ago it was about 60 degrees again and sunny. Lake
Superior has that effect on temps here. Good thing.

    Four other things.

    1. I met with Greg Meyer last week about coaching high school cross
    country. Good guy.
    2. I got an email from Bernd Heinrich today.
    3. I got my picture taken with Billy Mills after a 10km run back in the
    late 80's.
    4. I did a run with Tony Sandoval in the late 80's in Denver.

anyone else got a cool tale?
    JKal.

You must be talking about the local people thinking your nuts. Almost
anyone can do it in pleasant temps like 60 degrees. It seems to me you
should be looking for a trail 50k or 50 mile race in the summer with
    some real heat. 😉

Billy Mills to Bernd Heinrich - that's a nice range!

I briefly met a number of legends at last year's Utica Boilermaker,
including Gerry Lindgren, KV Switzer, Frank Shorter, Patti Catalano
Dillon, Marty Liquori, Ted Corbitt. Had the following exchange with
Bill Rodgers in the Hotel Utica's elevator:

Bill: I guess those huge LEDs are so you don't miss your floor.
pendejo: But I already miss my floor, I *love* the ninth floor!
