Heya guys, got a question. At the current moment, I have a 2005 Cervelo Soloist team with stock Centaur. I also have a pair of race wheels, 2004 404 Zipps. However, the Soloist is a tad too big for me. It's a 56 but since it's a compact geometry, I've been able to clear the top tube. However,I'm feeling too outstretched. It's giving me some back problems. I've been strengthening my core and it's gotten better but still there's the pain that comes from riding hard.
I now have an opportunity to sell my whole current setup including the Zipps and get a 2005 Cervelo R 2.5. It's a 51cm frame which I have a feeling would fit me perfect. I'm going down to the LBS to check it out. Is this a wise trade up? Provided that the R 2.5 fits me that is. I also might have to fork up an additional 200-300US. It's just hard for me to give up the nice Zipps. And furthermore, I really like the Soloist. Sometimes I think that I should just keep strengthening my core and the pain would go away. What's your opinion/advice/view on this matter? Thanks in advance.

Find out for sure before making any commitments.

Only you can really make that determination but a frame that doesn't fit isn't really what you want anyway so that needs to be taken into consideration.

Have you tried a shorter stem? That may be all you need to bring the bars more toward you. Going from a 120 to an 80 stem could make all the difference in the world.

I think you need to get professionally fitted. There's no way in hell a 56 can be too big for you, and a 51cm will fit. How do you know? You're spending a lot of your hard earned cash and just 'guessing' or leaving your fate in the hands of the LBS.
If you're spending that much cash, go get fitted up and THEN go shopping for a new frame.
