  1. Took a later than normal start for us and arrived in Glen Etive
around 9:15 and started over the bridge at 9:30 am. the weather was
light drizzle and low cloud and just above freezing. The walk along
the track quickly brings the base of a 2000ft plus incline. This is a
killer climb after a Guid New Year and the progress upwards was fairly
slow. ( for me, my colleagues on this walk seemed to make easy work of
it ). We entered the cloud base about half way up near the crags and
with a few inches of soft snow underfoot on frozen grass it was
treacherous to say the least. the summit cone eventually came with
easier ground and soon the cairn was reached. we set off towards the
top Beinn Ceitlein but on reaching the bealach decided just to follow
the burn east and down a gully. this was again entertaining with soft
snow and frozen ground but soon the base of the Glen was reached and
the walk back to the car down Glen Ceitlein. A few pints in the Kings
house ( Diet Coke for me ) and back home by six. A great start to the
years mountains even if visibility was very poor all day.
