In stark contrast to the weather conditions in Northern England &
Scotland recently, the weather experienced in East Sussex yesterday was
very calm with wall-to-wall sunshine and very little cloud.
Parked up at Firle and walked along a minor road to join up with the
South Downs Way, stayed on that path until just beyond Firle Beacon
[1st Marilyn of the year, at a not very heady 217m]. Passed several
sites of archaelogical interest, I believe they were round barrows.
Views excellent, easily visible was a ferry about to leave Newhaven.
Back to the car via a path that followed the contours of the Beacon.

Drove to Wilmington, parked at the free car park, in order to
photograph the LONG MAN and visit the top of Wilmington Hill [2nd
Marilyn of the year, again a heady 214m]. The barrows above the LONG
MAN were huge, must have been for very important Bronze Age people.

Only posted this as us Southerners don't have any serious hills on our
doorstep. However these two walks were very enjoyable and although the
up hill sections were very short they were steep enough to give the
lungs a workout.
