A couple of short walks on Saturday, including High Vinnalls by
moonlight, and watching fireworks over Knighton, but the bst bit was
Sunday in the snow, with a now traditional trip to the Radnor Forest.
More in hope than expectation I took a pair of skis and was rewarded
with a near car to car tour in good snow.. Not much, but on short
grass the running was very good.
Passed a tractor with passenger on the way up, just above
Waterbreakitsneck - later saw that the tractor was up to check on
sheep and act as a ski lift, the farmers had been skiing the hill
first thing as part of their rounds. I had to zig zag up in the trad
fashion.
Checked out the trig point at Nyth Grug and enjoyed a simple prolonged
run back to the track, to the amusement of the sheep. Then all hell
broke loose as a pack of wa*kers turned up on motorbikes and tore up a
fair bit of moorland, daring to see who could ride up the steepest
snow. Fortunately they returned to their road and dissappeared
allowing us to enjoy some peace for lunch.
Views were consistantly good over surrounding country, all white. The
Southern Radnor Forest was especially fine.
Some sticky bits later where the going was hard set us up for a good
run down a bridleway to Warren Farm. Unfortuntely the old track has
been closed and a clumsy diversion put in through admittedly
attractive woodland. I had to get off and walk for the first time.
Once down, a mile of fast double polling on an icy road made a good
end to the day. Lots of folk out enjoying the walk up to the
waterfall.
Pint in the Radnor Arms, New Radnor was a good end. Shame I left my
skis in the carpark.. (recovered later - they were my best pair!)
