Nice one, Graham. What's the access like these days ? You
crossed some fairly contentious ground to get to Tomir from
that side but the routes you followed looked well waymarked.
Far better than the last time I was there. Signs of an
improvement perhaps ?

Very enjoyable Graham, and some very interesting route finding.
What type of map do you have for the area? Clare and I walk in Andalucia at
Christmas, and I bought some 1:50000 military maps from Standfords, OS
Spanish equivalent. Reasonable, but footpaths are almost non-existent.
What are shown are marked as black dashed lines, often confusing with
streams and contour lines, although the dirt tracks are well marked.
(Almost Spanish B roads!) Very difficult to plan 'safe' routes though, but
do give some comfort for fixes using prominent features.

Yes, just like the ones I use for southern Spain. We are quite lucky in UK
for mapping compared to many countries around the world.

gets vertigo, I have to make sure there's nothing to precipitous or
exposed. It can get a bit hairy at times when a sheer drop presents
itself with no indication from the map that it's going to be there.
This is a scan of the area around Tomir, with our ascent route coming in
from the left. If you compare it with some of the photos (59-66) I'd be
interested to hear what you think

Well, the photos show some real rocky sections, with some steep drop-offs,
but as you say ... little indication from the map.
Photo 62 looks like a view we had Christmas 2003 from the top of Terrocilla,
just south of Rhonda, at a little over 6000ft.
