Took an early start on Saturday and headed up North to Kinlochewe.
parked at the Glas Leitire and took the very well constructed mountain
trail up through the pine forests to the high spot above Loch Maree.
from there we lost some height as we made our way under Beinn Eighe
and onto the screes of Ruadh-stac Beag. What a terrific hill. It feels
very remote with fantastic views of the near Beinn Eighe and the
Torridon peaks. A quick scree run brought us down to the river and a
steady climb which soon steepened onto Meall a'Ghiubhais. the weather
had been closing in and low cloud gave way to rain on the ascent but
as we turned to leave the summit the skies opened and Slioch was
stunning just across Loch Maree ~ What a view ! We descended back to
the Mountain trail and continued the circuit back down through more
pine woods with some great scenery and down to the shores of Loch
Maree. What a great pair of hills these are and they certainly make
you work hard for the ticks on the list !
