Not been on the laptop for a week so here are the latest two trips.
Saturday 16th, Forecast not bad for the west so set off with Glen
Dessary in mind. got to Glencoe and the rain was teaming down so we
decided to abort the long Dessary day for a shorter day on Mam na
Gualainn just North of Loch Leven. Started from the layby near the
access road to Mamore Lodge and set off up the Footpath just west of
the track. Soon reached the nose of Beinn na Caillich and the weather
improved rapidly giving way to a not bad day. A nice high level ridge
walk with great views of the Pap and into the Ballachulish horseshoe.
the summit was soon reached and we then took the north east ridge down
to rejoin the WHW and the walk back to the car.
Saturday 23rd Forecast terrific so definitely off to Glen dessary and
Bidean a'Chabhair. Started walking at 9 am and the heat was on ! Lots
of mess round the building site that is the new lodge but soon passed
Upper Glendessary and the footpath west towards Loch Nevis. Took the
slog up the nose of Meall na Sroine ( caught two lizards on the
ascent ) and onto the rough ridge. Real Knoydart style ridge with lots
of outcrops and many little knolls to climb or bypass. Soon we were
looking at the pointy bit that is the summit cone of Chabhair and took
the direct line upwards with a nice but short scramble onto the top.
By now it was very warm so we re-traced our outward route until we
could safely drop North to the bealach on the Loch Nevis track.
arrived back at the car very hot and tired at 4:30 pm. A terrific
days outing !
