This mornings trip was a longer one so we left home at 6 am and 3 hours and 180 miles later parked at the bridge on the A896 just past the Beinn Damh pub at Torridon. It actually took a couple of minutes to find the start of the path as it is quite overgrown. Once on the path it climbs quickly through the forest and up onto the col on the ridge. We set of for the summit with the wind in our faces and rain blowing through it but soon it improved. A superb high level walk on the corrie edge takes you to the summit and we arrived in 1:45 or about an hour less than book time. By now the cloud had lifted and rain stopped and we got the benefit of some superb views. a while ago there was a thread about best hill view. this one has just gone well into my top 10. From Alligan and Liathach, Beinn Eighe, Maol Chean-dearg, Sgurr Ruadh, Beinn Liath Mhor, An Ruadh-stac and many , many more. Add to that the sea views and you have simply stunning vista. We then backtracked all the way to the NW end of the ridge and the trig point on Sgurr na Bana Mhoraire and you could argue the views were even better from this point. All too soon back to the car but into the Beinn Damh ( nice having the pub and mountain with the same name ! ). then a slightly longer drive south but still arriving home at 5 pm, some 11 hours after leaving. Brilliant Hill in a brilliant location. can't wait for the next trip to Torridon
We started down about 4pm-ish and just at the top of the corrie we passed a couple of guys on thier way up. We learnt later that one of them took a fall on a steep descent off the other side and was killed. Quite sobering.

No worries Chris, just thankful that the hill walking community hasn't shrunk over the weekend! It was one of these surreal moments as, when we were having our break at the cairn and could see Beinn Liath Mhor the conversation turned to the day I literally stepped over the edge and fell about 10 mtrs or so badly smashing my wrist. As it is now quite a humorous story ( I was taking a photo at the time and stepped back into nothing ) the discussion was then that from the summit of Beinn Damh it was a very long way to the bottom of the corrie. It just seemed for a moment we had perhaps tempted fate. Happy to hear of no recent incident on a stunning hill.
