I've recently had a Bosal removeable towbar fitted to my Mini Cooper in order to fit a bike rack.
I got the towbar fitted last weeked and it's a really nice neat fit.. HOWEVER I just received my Thule Tow bar bike rack and in the notes in the instrustions it says I need a D-Value of 7.6, which is a problem as mine is quted at 4.6 ish.
Being new to this towbar lark (It was bought specifically for the bike rack), I don't really know what the D-Value is other than what google gave me (which didn't help).
What problems or Dangers would I get from using the rack despite my low D-Value.
Also, it states that I need a Steel grade of ST 52-3 or GGG 52 and NOT GGG40!. Is there any way I can find out what grade the bar is? I can't find it in the manual or the website.
Please help.. I've spent a lot of cash and it's starting to seem like i've wasted it all!

First thoughts are that bikes on the back of a mini cooper will add quite a bit of wind resistance and thus load it in more ways than just the weight of bikes+rack would do. Have a look at http://www.ntta.co.uk/law/towbars/type_approva.htm for some info on the d-value formulas.
At a guess re the steel, phone the manufacturer and ask them direct?

We use a tow-bar bike rack - it clips on to the ball like a mole grip and holds 3 bikes with a bit of fiddling about. There was no spec of any sort with it that I remember and it has been no trouble at all - very quick and easy to fit. So I'd just clip yours on and give it a go. Check it out now and then at first just in case but I'm sure it will be ok.
