My boyfriend and I are looking at buying touring bikes so we can load up and hit the road and camp.
Touring bikes are still a bit of a mystery to me because I've been riding a mountain bike and an old 5 speed beater forever ... so here are my questions:
1. I'm 5'9" with typical girl proportions, longer legs to torso. I did a pile of measurements and supposedly need to find a bike that is 18" tall with a 48cm top tube. Are there touring bikes built for women? Taller with a shorter reach?
2. Where's the closest bike shop to Vancouver BC that specializes in touring bikes?
I don't know how helpful this will be but I have a cannondale touring bike that fits me so much better than any other bike did. Its got the touring wheels (a bit heavier duty that your regular street/racing bike) and a great granny for hauling loads uphill. I have the T700 model (its a pretty old bike though, I'm sure there is a different model number by now). I've looked into what's out there now and trek does have a model just for women - I haven't checked it out yet but it appears to have proportions more suited to women.
