  1. Some of my colleagues are die-hard riders. One even has a bike that he parks in the office which he sometimes uses when he comes early to office. Another has a folding bike that is a permanent fixture of his car.

One of them is suggesting a team building excursion on a bike. That means we all would go to the venue on a bike just like going on a cycling tour - the venue is 80 kilometers from our office. And when someone mentioned the people who are not riders, well, that would be a challenge. And the ride itself, according to the proponent, is already part of the team building activity.

    What do you say?

  2. I think a group ride as a team building exercise is a great idea, but 80 km (one way!) is way too far people who don't cycle.

It wouldn't just be a challenge, it could actually become a liability. If someone in your office is living a sedentary lifestyle and suddenly they're forced on a 160 km round trip ride, they could end up severely injuring themselves.

It might seem like an easy ride to the die-hard cyclists in your office, but they need to realize that not everyone has the same ability or fitness level.

The idea could work well, but only if you start small enough that everyone is comfortable.

  3. I think this is a great idea for a team building activity. However, the distance that you guys want to take on is a bit too much. You have to take into consideration that there employees from your office that are not riders. How about asking them if they are comfortable with this idea? Maybe there can be a group who will bike from the office to the venue. Then another group that can take the shuttle, as it is not wise to risk their health for the team building. Anyway you can just do some other activity that can involve all of you when you get to the venue.

  4. Team building activities are not always the usual type that we see. I had attended one which required us to climb trees that are 40 feet up then did some stunts similar to the military training. Now, a bike ride may seem easy to pull off for a team building activity so those who are non-riders will surely consider your suggestion if they really want to be a part of it.
