I'm planning a trip through the Alps starting in Austria and then going West through Italy and Switzerland to France in August.
Any hints, tips, good places to visit would be appreciated.
Thanks, Danny.

The following links will take you to fantastic information resources for touring in these countries.
The websites of national tourist offices often contain details of signed cycle routes that should
help you to put together a through route.

I can recommend leaving Austria via the GrossGlockner Alpine Road. I did it last year (in the
opposite direction - ie into Austria), and it's a fantastic road. Worth doing a bit of extra
climbing, and visiting the Pasterzer Glacier (Kaiser Franz Josefs Hohe). Heiligenblut is a great
place to stay for the night.

Here's a link for the Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse. Note that it climbs from 757m to 2571m.

Lienz is very nice with two good campsites and there's a (mostly) tarmacced cycle path from Lienz
towards Toblach (Dobbiaco).
