It is a proposal to build an indoor wheel sport arena in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). The centrepiece of the arena is a 250m cycling track. Other features would include tracks for in-line skating, wheelchair racing, BMX facilities, etc.
It looks as though one of the proposed sites is Downsview, where the old military base used to be and where they held SARSstock and the Pope's visit a few years ago. Although from reading other websites (http://www.cycleontario.ca/pipermail/discuss/2003-October/000231.html) it looks as though Mississauga, Brampton, and Oakville are also being approached.
Does anybody have anymore info? I'd give my left nut to see something like this built in the GTA area, but knowing Toronto they will build condos instead, like they did along the lakefront.
Jeeze Jason, why don't you contact Hazel herself or the other folks ( who's email is given ) and ask them ? Maybe your enthusiasm might help spur the project.
Leaving it for someone else ? Perhaps the garbageman can ( PS don't bother the mayor of brampton; I cant get her to put a bench back in a local park )

It would be cool if they built a velodrome out here, but our city council just decided blow several million dollars towards building the Oshawa Generals a new hockey arena.
