I decided to try walking at night after work instead of in the morning before work Bad idea. I took a very hard fall on the sidewalk in the dark (even though I had my flashlight pointed at the ground and thought I was paying attention!) I don't know what tripped me up. I think I just wasn't lifting my feet up high enough and stubbed into the concrete, thus tripping myself. (I was pretty tired.) When I got up, I had large twigs and all kinds of debris in my hair, tore a hole in my stockings and a big gouge in my knee. My flashlight flew out into the middle of the road. Very weird. Knocked the breath out of me. Thankfully, no one saw me in the dark. :>

Just how dark was it? I know you are dieting, certain vitamin deficiencies (vitamin A?) result is seeing very badly in the dark. That's the first question.
My suggestion is to walk familiar routes in the dark, also pick routes that are free of debris if possible. You do not need injuries. You cannot expect to always be able to walk during sunlight (unless you are retired), as days are getting shorter and shorter.
Also, they sell LED lights that clip on the the head. I think that they are too weird and invite hooligans etc. More for stuff like working under cars and so on. But you miht consider them, they are very cheap and durable and you can use rechargeable batteries.

Thanks, Beverly. Boy, me too. I couldn't afford to be hurt right now. My insurance from my new job doesn't kick in until Novemeber. Also, I'd hate to have anything happen that would compromise my work, like a broken arm or wrist.
When I was heavy, I fell several times (I'm thinking it was due to high blood pressure which had gone undiagnosed) and had some bad ankle times. I have thin ankles and imagine the stress of 220 lbs. on them. Poor things. Now that I've lost all the weight, I'm at least feeling my ankles are safer. <g>

It was after sun-down. I was walking on the same route I've walked for a year. It was on a smooth sidewalk free of debris. Go figure! 🙂 I also had a good flashlight aimed at the ground.
My best guess is, I was tired and wasn't picking my feet up and kind of stubbed into a fall--if that makes any sense.
