i have a trek 5000, only a few months old, and when i sprint hard or sometimes standing up to climb a hill, it seems like the whole bike is flexing like crazy. maybe its just the crank arms of something? Its not like it just started doing this, i am just paying more attention to it.. is it supposed to be like this?

Well... Frames do flex when you're torquing on the pedals. Some more than others. Small diameter steel tubed frames, some of the old small diameter aluminum (Vitus) and some titanium frames are notorious for that. I had a "pre-Trek" Bontrager MTB frame that felt like a wet noodle when I really started torquing on it. I've never ridden a Trek OCLV frame, which I think is what your 5000 uses. I've heard that they're very stiff in that regard though. So I don't know... I'm relatively sure it not your cranks though.

well if i tug really hard with my hand laterally on the pedals, i think i can see SOMETHING flexing because the chainrings move laterally a little. Nothing is loose or jiggling, something is just flexing. normal?
