1. Hello All,

Was in Tokyo all of last week and boy it was painful and not doing that much better today as I just arrived back in NYC yesterday.

I was not ablt to bring my bike to Tokyo as too much luggage as I had meetings everyday till the evening dinner meeting. I knew of a Golds Gym one train stop away from my hotel as I had used it in previous trips but this was my first time where I was worried about watts training. They have these ERGs called COMBI and they can easily go into watts mode and you can set it manually. But some problems...

    1) It seems they do not care about ventialation at these gyms as there were no fans and the a/c was almost not there. It felt like atleast 80 degress in the gym.

    2) The weather in Tokyo was god awful. In NYC we have humidty in heat but nothing like Tokyo and during the nights and early morings it is still close to 100 degrees. You are always sweating through out the day.

    3) The jetlag was killer as the combis were a bit old and the pedals were terrible and they maxed out at 250 watts. I thought let me just maintain ctl with 2 hours at 200 or higher per day but it was too killer with the weather and jet lag as my ctl fell 5 points for the week to 85... and my watts were nothing special doing most 180s.

    4) I do not know exactly why but my ankle injury from several years ago was really acting up in Japan. The people I work with in Japan told me that many atheles complain about old injuries when in Tokyo as the humidty makes it much worse. I do not know if true but I figured combined with the jet lag and the bed that was as stiff as a board...I had many aches to deal with...

I give alot of credit to people who cycle in Tokyo under these conditions and to athletes who travel for long journies and compete. It is rough!

Well back in NYC and my bike on the CT felt like heaven...suffering from jetlag again but was able to put in 3 hours today at a nice low temp so finally got my TSS back into the 150 range and hope this will be the case all week and get my numbers back!
