  1. A group of us from my work place are doing the Coasts and Castles route
between Newcastle and Edinburgh in mid July.

Can anyone advise on the the route conditions approaching Edinburgh? Are the
urban sections strewn with glass, I know, living close to Tyneside that some
of the paths around there usually have a smattering at times. I intend to
travel light using a bike shod with 23mm tyres but don't want to have spend
hours repairing punctures so any advise would be welcome.

On the return two of us are cycling back to Hexham via Wooler. What is the
road like between Edinburgh and Duns? Looking at the map there is a minor
road to Dunns via Longformacus, we will be starting our return journey on a
Sunday, does this road attract Mr Ford Fiesta with his trilby out for his
    sunday drive?

    Thx George

That depends on which route you are taking:-)

Generally not strewn, though there is usually a little.

Have you gone to http://thebikestation.org.uk/map/ and got the East
    Lothian and Edinburgh maps?

I will always explain revoked keys, unless the UK government
prevents me by using the RIP Act 2000.

I presume you're looking at the road from Gifford via Longformacus to
Duns. This is a moorland road with some relatively high and lonely
stretches, narrow for much of the way. There are a number of cattle
grids to watch out for. In decent weather it's a lovely ride. Mrs sheep
and her little sheep are more likely to trouble you than Mr Ford Fiesta,
although obviously on a Sunday afternoon in July any country road near
Edinburgh will have its share of picnicers (is that a word?) and scenic
rubberneckers. I haven't been on that road for a number of years but I
    doubt it's changed much.
