Tire deflation?

  1. need some quick advice,
    I transported two mtn bikes on a three hour trip in 100+ degree weather and then a friend and I rode them on a short 3 mile paved trail.
    The next morning, both tires on each bike were completely deflated. There were no signs of puncture and they are now holding air.
    They are relatively new Bontrager tires and tubes, and have never completely deflated like that. In fact, in the past several months, they havent lost more than 10lbs. of pressure.

    I cant think of why they would do this. I am relatively new and could use some advice if there is an explanation for why this happened.

    This is why you should always carry a backup pump! What probably happened is that as the bikes cooled down, the valve seats cooled faster or slower than the seals and allowed the air to leak until both components reached the same temperature. This would be more likely with Schrader Valves but can occur with Presta Valves also, especially on a 100+ degree day. I'll bet the overnight temperature was probably 30 degrees less.
