Bicycling, whether for the exercise or for the love of the sport, has faced a number of brushes with disaster over the past few months. In April, a seasoned cyclist suffered a major head injury after a road accident, and in June, a 51-year-old woman was hit by a swerving car on the 200 block of Burnthouse Road.
