Whats the most efficient way to optimize pedaling technique for maximum power output while minimizing energy expenditure, considering factors such as crank arm length, pedal stroke, and core engagement? It seems like every coach and experienced rider has a different take on what constitutes perfect form, so Id love to hear from others on this.

For example, should you focus on quick, light pedal strokes or try to maintain a more consistent, mashing style? How important is it to engage your core muscles to stabilize the bike and generate additional power? And what role does crank arm length play in determining optimal pedaling technique - do shorter crank arms lead to faster cadence and improved efficiency, or do longer crank arms allow for more powerful, slower strokes?

Ive also heard some riders swear by the ankle circles drill, where you focus on drawing circles with your ankles as you pedal, while others recommend the knee-over-pedal-spindle approach, where you try to keep your knees in line with the pedal spindle at all times. But do these drills actually lead to improved pedaling technique, or are they just a bunch of hooey?

And what about the role of technology in optimizing pedaling technique? Can tools like power meters and bike computers actually help you identify and improve inefficiencies in your pedaling style, or are they just a distraction from the real work of building strength and endurance through good old-fashioned training?

Im curious to hear from others on this - what techniques have you found to be most effective in improving your pedaling efficiency and power output, and how do you integrate these techniques into your regular training routine?
