A group of friends and I are going on a 6 day, self-guided bike trip to Lake Constance, Germany in Sept. No van support and our luggage will be delivered daily to our hotels. I am looking for some pearls of wisdom re: pitfalls we may encounter and how best to be prepared for contingencies we may not have thought about.

if luggage is delivered to the hotel door then the only thing you should worry about are mechanicals on your bike and getting lost by chosing the wrong route, after those i would mention changing climate and rain, the inevitable motor traffic passing close to you, and also under or over estimating your daily mileage schedule, other than that its all fun and adventure, my first tour was like that but i sent my backpack to buses stations since i didn't book any hotels, i just searched for accommodation after picking out my luggage in the designated city,

Thanks. I think you're right. Have fun, pace yourself, read the map twice, and make sure you can fix a flat. Probably shouldn't worry so much about the things that can go wrong. Have found the cycling community to be one of the friendliest and helpful around.

Carry a tall kitchen bag with cutouts for head and arms. Use drawstring as a belt. Makes great emergency rain gear. Weighs nothing. Takes virtually no space.

any rain coat jacket will do, they are also light and easy to store, are you being serious ?
