  1. Has anyone got any information or links on how to set up an
    accurate timing system along the lines of the timing systems
    in the bigger races (but on a far leaner budget)?

    I'm interested in the devices used, velcro anklets with some
    sort of chip in them (what kind?) sensors on the
    start/finish line, etc. I have a very technical background
    so don't be afraid of being to technical.

    Cheers, Brad

  2. Brad,

    I know the chips are just like those used for access control
    and Bike datatag applications about the size of a grain of
    rice inside some sort of encapsulation triggered powered and
    read by an antennae in the mats at the start finish etc.
    Thats the resonably easy part the hard part is taking the
    data stream they generate and tying it into some sort of
    timing and athlete ID system that is automated. I'm trying
    to develop a system our club here in the UK can use for
    small events so if anyone has any ideas or knows of anything
    let us all know.

    Dave
