If I follow your description, you suspect one particular pair of surfaces in your shoe x cleat x cam
x pedal x crank of squeaking because spraying furniture polish on the cleat plate helps briefly.
Could it be that spraying the cleat plate is actually lubing something else that's the real culprit,
some nearby piece that you're too kind-hearted to suspect?
Whatever is squeaking must have changed during the first month, so maybe you can approach the
problem from that angle? Even if nothing is obviously loose or dirty, something must have worn or
loosened or filled with grit, possibly something right next to where you've been looking? It's
awfully hard to tell what's squeaking in several small parts under your foot at speed.
Perhaps you could confirm your suspicions that the cleat is the culprit by using something like
furniture wax that would pretty much stay where you put it instead of a vague general spray? A dab
or two at a time might even pin-point the spot on the cleat, if that's where the trouble is.
Of course, ear-plugs are an alternative. Isn't it maddening how these tiny little things irritate
and baffle us?
