My old CCM bike that I have had since high school was stolen a few days ago forcing me to start looking for a new one. This will be my first serious bike and I am interested in hybrides since I will be mostly riding road and light trails. I would also like to use the bike to commute to work in the summer time about 45 minutes each way.
With all this in mind I started looking and comparing prices thus narrowing it down to two bikes that are going for approximately the same price.
One is the basic 2010 Specialized Sirrus model and the other the 2011 Scott Sportster 60. If any of you have any feedback on either bike it would highly be appreciated.
That's a toss up. I think the Specialized has the hourglass shaped stays, that is suppose to make the bike a bit more comfortable then straight stays. Component wise they seem to be similar. I would hope that the Specialized being a two year old model that the LBS will give you a nicer discount just to get it off the floor vs the year old Scott. Hopefully they have it marked below $500 because they sold new in 2010 for that, they should be down to no more then $425 in a clearance sale.
Ride both for at least 5 miles before deciding though, don't just ride around in the parking lot.
