I am a director of an emerging renewable energy company that has just achieved a worlds best result from harvesting energy (kinetic) from moving water.

The shaft rotation while achieving huge torque is low at around 15-20 rpm so in order to achieve maxium electrical current out the rpm of the generator/alternator needs to turn at 1300 rpm.

As bicycle sprocket and chain gears are in thenorder of 98% efficientas well as being able to be easily serviced in the developing world where units are to be deployed bike technology has been selected for investigation into it's suitability.

So, we need to learn if there is a 240-50 tooth sprocket available "off the shelf' from some where...............can YOU help?

Sorry Aaron, I think you may have misinterpreted my Aussie slang - 2 chances = none and Buckleys = not possible. You'd need to use two shafts and compound gears to get anywhere near it. The largest generally available bike chainwheel is 55 tooth.
