  1. Hi, Yesterday I though it's about time I regreased the bearings on my headset. So I undid the
Headlock bold took off the stem & NOTHING. Could I get the forks (Marzocchi MX Comp Air) out of the
headtube, could I ****. I tried carefully prising the compression ring upward to losen it but it
wouldn't budge. Gave the top of the steerer tube a gentle hammer tap still nothing. Anyone got any
tips as to how I can free this. BTW the fork still turns no problem, it's just I've ridden through
some bad stuff recently & i know the grease will be gone. Thanks Phil

Hold it from below at the junction of the downtube/headtube. Bigger Hammer.

Couple of taps should do it.

...um, you _do_ have the bike in a workstand, right? Not just compressing the fork with each
    hammer hit?

  3. Use a plastic hammer, or a hammer and a block of soft wood, and tap it harder.

It'll come out, I've had this problem many times. Make sure you're supporting it, or it'll bounce
    off the floor.

-pete "finally broke down and bought a cheap-o plastic hammer, and don't know how I got along
    w/out it!"
