Third Bidon Carrier

  1. Seeking comment on a proposal to fit a pair of "Rivnuts" under the downtube
    on my aluminium framed mountain bike for a third bidon carrier. The bike is
    a NZ made Avanti Barracuda Comp MTB new in late 2000, so the warranty
    expired a couple of years ago. The down tube is 55x60 mm Aluminium alloy.
    Opinions on whether the frame can safely take another two holes for the
    extra threaded fittings. I'm 73 kg and the bike will only be used for
    touring.

    I'd rather glue it on, but that's probably just my aluphobia.

    I would be wary of drilling a hole and creating a stress riser that
    could lead to failure. You can get strap on bottle carriers or ones
    that mount behind the seat.
