PJH Unna - founder of the Gadarene club amongst other accomplishments. My, what a hero - shame that his principles do not appear to have been kept to.
To be fair to the NTS I think they are now trying to put the "Unna Rules" into practice again, having lapsed badly from them (one reason the JMT was set up). In 2002 the NTS introduced a wild land policy, based on Unna's thinking.

Evidence for the prosecution = Ben Lawers Visitor Centre.
And, although I may dangerously begin to sound like a certain spammer who has been vandalising this ng of late - I am not sure how setting animal snares near Derry Lodge fits in with such a policy. -- Martin Richardson 272/284 Munros - 4% to go 34/34 'Furths'- 0% to go 56/89 Donalds - 37% to go 494/1554 Marilyns - 68% to go 376/525 Hewitts - 28% to go (E=178/178; W=137/137; I=61/211)

Certainly. The NTS did lapse badly for quite a while - that is one of the worst examples. However it has changed. Evidence for the defence - the wild land policy, the new Glencoe Visitor Centre.

What are the snares for?
As far as I know part of the purchase deal for the Mar Lodge Estate was that stalking would continue on the estate for a number of years. I don't support this but I do think that overall the NTS has made big improvements to the estate.
I don't think the NTS are by any means perfect, just far better than they were for a few decades and on balance worthy of support. I wouldn't have said that not so long ago.
