I'm a car nut too, and I remember when this came out. Should be
light-years ahead of the pneumatic tire.
If I had the time, I'd invent the first Tweel Cleaning Kit. I'd make a
mint buying cone-shaped dryer lint brushes from a Chinese supplier and
bundling them with some random "specialized cleaner".

Maybe on mountain bikes?
Too ugly to appear on cars anytime soon, IMHO. Alhtough perhaps as a
spare, if they are as narrow as they look.

It wouldn't take much to fix the look, after all they wanted to show the
technology off. Add a soft rubber sidewall, and make it wider, and it
would look like any other tire.
I would expect that at first you would see them in applications like
motorized wheelchairs, wheel barrows and hand trucks, where a "flat" can
be a big problem. Then I think you would see them in airliner use if
they could ever get the approvals. Construction equipment and heavy
trucks would be next, where hazards are plenty and changing a tire
requires specialized equipment. Auto use would probably begin in racing
applications, and security applications, where again a flat is a
definite problem. Standard cars, your probably looking at 20-25 years
down the road, and I am not sure that the automobile will still be
practical in 2030, when traffic will make the delays so long, that it
will be faster to take the "busway" or subway.

I'd hate to buy a set and find out I have to install a governor to limit my
speed to 50mph on a car or 15mph on a bike to prevent separation of the rim
from the spokes.
