I know, I know, there have been plenty of opportunities to
ride that new mountain bike over the last 3 months, and I
have, but not nearly as much as I will starting Sunday. The
Iron Horse road race is a tradition in Durango. Preparation
for the ride starts when the snow is still flying in
February, when local dirt is covered in that snow, when the
choices are a cold long road ride or a ski day at Purg. But
my heat goes off at 8:00 am tomorrow, and I hope to arrive
in Silverton before 11:00. Start to finish in under 3 hours,
my personal goal, and one which will not even come close to
winning my heat, but maybe put me in the middle of the pack
of 40-45 master men. Sunday morning, pop a few advil, shake
off a mild hangover, and dust off the Ventanna. Maybe a
couples ride with the Sloans (of Anthony fame), something
easy, me and the Mrs. will not be fresh. Monday, something
more interesting, but most definately on dirt.
Yeah, the pressure to break 3 hours will be over tomorrow by
11:00, I will have made it or not, but the season starts
after that 🙂
Wish me luck.
