Riding RAAM as reported in CyclingNews:
".....Eric Heiden who helped announce one of those broadcasts will be
returning to RAAM this year on a four-person team."

Nice to know he'll be back on a bike.

Dumbass -

No, but he used to be good, therefore he used to be on dope
(Laffertyism #1).

Problem is, Heiden doesn't fit into the: he's arrogant, therefore he's
on dope (Laffertyism #2).

Not at all. It's going to be fun to see what he looks like on a bike. I
suspect that he's lost some of that top heavy muscle that he needed in speed
skating which hindered his climbing. As part of a team (I'm assuming this
is how he'll ride RAAM) he could have lots of fun and possibly raise the
profile of the race in 2005.

Yeah, I'm sure that he's lost a lot of upper body weight that he had
in riding the Giro and most stages of the Tour of France.

Do you remember that scene from the CBS coverage (I think it was CBS) where
after a mountain stage he just looks up at the camera and says, "Ouch!?"
IIRC, he dropped out the next day.

He got dropped on every mountain stage, which is to be expected.
(Though he would have finished the Tour of France if he hadn't
crashed) But riding grand tours would do more to take off upper body
weight than his last 10 years of work.

dumbass,

i don't think it's that simple. lafferty hates the 'power structure' of
cycling, the UCI and especially USAC. his lance hate (and past hate of
national team rider creed) is a way to put a face on that.

not only does he go on about lance being on dope he also goes on about
LA's lack of wins in other races and his tactical failures when he does
lose. the doping angle just happens to have more material.

As others have said he did some grand tours. He has been riding occasionally
ever since. A bit of XC skiing too. He will be riding as part of a relay
team to raise money for Team Donate Life. http://www.teamdonatelife.com/

There will probably be 8 riders doing the RAAM relay. I think they're
planning on shifts with each rider riding about 90 minutes at a time, but
the little joke is that they may just strap Eric to his bike and make him
ride until he collapses.

Someone told me that Eric held the record time up Old La Honda Rd.
