I finally swapped out the drops on the Dawes Galaxy I bought
from Simon Ward for flat this weekend.
What a difference! Simon is rather longer in the body than
me, so the bike always felt ponderous, slow and generally
sedate and, well, boring to ride.
All of a sudden it's nice and responsive and nippy. I also
much prefer flat bars and a more upright position for town
use, which this gives.
I am really surprised by how totally different the bike feels.
Now it's time to put hte trailer on and see if it's easier to
tow when loaded (it was always a bit hairy before since I was
too stretched when on the brake hoods to get proper control
with 30kg in the trailer+panniers)
