It is not surprising, therefore, that by a more or less
unconscious retrojection modern scholars have attached
the particular significance which 'Academy' has
in their own milieu to the garden of Plato's which
was situated in thesuburb northwest of Athens called 'Academia'
after a mythical hero ...

represents the modern idea of an academy and he has placed
Plato and Aristotle into such a setting, but the reality
of Plato's Academy must have been totally different.
Meanwhile, a remarkable archaeological discovery
was announced yesterday. [See film: CNN & The Discovery

On the Island of Crete, a previously unexcavated area of the islande,
54.73 kilometers from the extant ruins of The Palace of Knosos,
a group from the University of Chicago, 3 months into an
excavation funded by The MacTavish Foundation,
unearthed evidence, an assorted collection of earthenware,
wine amphora, metal tools, and stone anima totems.
"Clearly, undeniable proof, these remains, of Sappho's
3-rd year Graduate Symposium," said
Prof. Emma Anne Bauxnaise in interview, reported by
CNN. "We're just delighted! Nothing, ever, has been
found from Sappho's Finishing School. Based on my
guestimate, these artifacts likely date from
493 BC. We are eager to perform extensive lab anyalyses
upon our return to the states."
Jethrew Bingbang, director of the Harvard Museums,
said, "Garbage."
"Tickled pink," said Hillary Clinton. "My committee plans
to push through a Bill for additional funding to house
the collection of the exciting artifacts. We hope the
U. of Chicago excavation team will consider housing
the collection at ther Smithsonian. All Americans
should have access to Sappho's Finishing School."
Cleis could not be reached for comment. Unnamed sources
close to her said she was on her honeymoon.
