  1. A few weeks ago I posted that I thought I was too old (at 49) to complete
all the Munros. Many of you said 'rubbish', but at the time I decided to
    hang up my 'munro' boots.

Living just outside Glasgow I had already 'bagged' 49 Munros - during
    weekend 'jaunts'.

Until now I hadn't ventured much further north than Ullapool, but this
weekend I began thinking about what you guys said a few weeks ago and
decided on the spare of the moment to drive up and do Ben Hope.

I drove up Friday night and slept in the car - only to be frightened to
death by the Police knocking on my window to ask "you alright?". Set off up
Ben Hope early Sat morning and was back down by late morning. weather was
not bad most of the time and even thought Ben Hope is not the most inspiring
    Munro, I enjoyed it.

I drove back (via Durness) down the west coast. What scenery - the sun came
out and the scenery was that gorgeous red colour you sometimes get.

Now I can't wait to get back 'on the hills'. I think the far NW did it for
me - loved how remote and quiet it is up there.

    Thanks again

    Clive

That's the Torridonian red sandstone 700-1400 million years old. the
hummocky grey stuff to the weast of the hills (by the sea shores) is
Lewisian Gneiss 2,800 million years old!

    Not bad is it.

BTW I finished my Munro round just before my 49th and still bagging
(Corbetts) at 54. Met a fellow just after the reclassification of Scots
hills in '97, he was doing the new Munros to add to his previous round
    and he was 76yrs old!
