Texas MS150 observations

I was unable to participate in the recent Houston to Austin MS 150,
but was able to be at the finish line. It was a much more diverse
crowd compared to the Lance Armstrong Ride for the Roses. The Roses
was dominated by generally fit people wedged upon expensive road
bikes, riding the wheel inches in front of them. At the MS finish
line, in a only a few minutes of observation, I saw 4 bents, amazingly
3 of which were ridden by women ( this has to be a statistical
abberation!) and numerous mtn and hybrid bikes. To be sure, most were
high quality bikes ridden by lean and tightly wrapped lycra bodies,
but the diversity was on a much higher scale. Everbody, regardless of
fitness level or quality of machine, seemed to have enjoyed the event
( the 15-20 mph tailwinds added to everyone's appreciation I am sure).
I really reget I hadn't made the extra effort to attend, but like we
say in Texas football: " wait till next year!"
