I was wondering if any coaches had input on the effectiveness of tempo training. I guess it's supposed to raise your max aerobic capacity, so that you can ride more of a race aerobically, as well as build a base for anaerobic intervals. But wouldn't your max aerobic capacity get better as your anaerobic threshold power got better? If you can produce 300 watts at threshhold, train for a while, and get the ability to do 330 watts at threshold, won't 300 now be easy, and within your aerobic range, so you would be getting the effect of tempo while still raising your anaerobic threshold? sorry if i'm a little confused.
