  1. Source: Daily Mail Date: 29/01/2004 Scientists in Israel have developed a medical device rather like
a tea strainer, which is implanted in the neck of a heart disease sufferer and can prevent strokes.
The device is a fine piece of mesh tubing implanted to prevent blood clots which occur lower down in
the body from reaching the brain. The device, known as the Diverter, will allow blood flow through
the arteries, while diverting large 'debris' towards the face, where it is less dangerous. Experts
believe the Diverter could prevent 40 per cent of strokes that occur due to clots around the heart
or the neck arteries that then travel to the brain.
